10.       Can tiles be repainted and if so what paint can you recommend?

We do not recommend any paint for the complete redecoration of our ceilings. Manufacturers  do recognise that there are specialist companies who can offer a cleaning or redecoration service. However the decision to repaint mineral fibre or metal tiles must be considered carefully because, depending upon the tile face pattern (fissures, perforations, scrim etc), the paint type used, and the thickness of the applied coat(s), the tile’s technical performance, such as sound absorption, fire reaction, sag, light reflectance etc, may be adversly affected. If there is any doubt, then laboratory testing to assess any possible differences in technical and legislative performance should be conducted on repainted samples. It is unlikely that that the tiles will be able to be repainted while still in the grid but in all cases the advice of a professional paint sprayer should be obtained.
It should be noted that the repainting of ceiling tiles s will invalidate any warranty that was provided when the tiles were new.

Installation Instructions include 4 basic components excluding accessories: tiles 1) Main Panel: The main panel is the largest panel to be installed. Most technicians do not recommend you starting a row of panels along a wall or using a wall as a guide because often times walls are not exactly parallel and can cause an unattractive misalignment.

If a project is finished with misaligned materials it is time consuming to correct.

Before beginning installation, it is a great practice to measure the wall at each end of the room and then make a mark at the center of the wall. Utilizing a "snap chalk line" really helps. Next, measure the adjacent walls, find the center and snap a second chalk line here. You will then have a chalked "T" section, which marks the center of the room. Depending on the size of the panels your installing, they may align with the chalk lines or a measured distance from the centerline, which can easily be done with a tape measure. Next. Install a row of panels along the length of the room. It is most important for your first row to be aligned correctly as this will make it easy to align the following panels. Most technicians install the second row on one side of the center line row of panels, then one on the other side, then one on the other side and so on working your way towards the outer areas of the wall or ceiling.

According to technicians, this method has been much easier and more accurate than that of working from one side to the other. Always install all of your main panels first leaving about the last 6 to 10 in. of area to be covered by the filler panels.

2) Filler Panel: Filler panels are then used to cover the outer areas that the main panels did not. You will need to cut your filler panels to size. If you can install the main panels so that there is only about 1 ft. or less of uncovered area, that’s perfect. The filler panel is to be slightly tucked under the edge of the main panel. Once you reach the desired location for the filler panel, nail the perimeter of the main panel while also nailing through the filler panel. If you are using a molding strip, the filler panel does not have to be tucked under the main panel. Just make sure the gap between the main and filler panel is not larger than the molding strip. Obviously, the purpose of the molding strip is to cover gaps. ceiling-installation 3) Cornice: Measure down the wall the depth of the cornice that you will be using. Snap a chalk-line to determine the bottom of the cornice along the wall. Start nailing from one corner to the other wall. Miters can be cut by hand, or a power miter box using an abrasive disk. The cornice has a finished edge providing you visual guide as to which end is to be placed against the wall.

Install a cone-head nail or paneling nail into the beaded edge every 6 ". The cornice is to be installed over the field or filler panels depending on whether or not you used filler panels. 4) Molding: The last and easiest step is installing the molding strip. Place the beads of the molding over the beaded edge of the field panels. This will keep the panels straight and aligned. Suspended Ceiling Tiles

11.       What causes "pattern staining" on a ceiling tile?

Pattern staining on the face of a ceiling tile may be due to three adverse causes.
1) Dirty water may have dripped onto the back of the tile and soaked through to the face causing discoloured stains. These will normally be yellow or brown in colour and probably due to ferric oxide (rust) contamination.
2) Tiles in the immediate vicinity of air grilles or diffusers sometimes display black marks or streaks. This is due to dirt in the air being deposited on the tile’s surface as the air emanates from or returns to the distribution system. Smooth tiles such as Plain or Orcal plain etc are less likely to be affected.
3) Heat from a room will rise (due to convection) and migrate through a suspended ceiling towards the (normally) cooler ceiling void. Minute particles of dirt in the atmosphere will also rise and be deposited on the ceiling tile’s surface. However if the thermal insulation of the tile is not consistent (as often occurs with metal tiles with mineral wool pads in the back, that are not carefully laid flat particularly at the corners) then the dirt will be deposited unevenly with a build-up at the "cold spots" and appear as straw, brown or grey coloured marks

Using ceiling panels in interior is a great way to create high quality and functional ceiling spaces.

These panels can be both functional and aesthetically important. tiles There are many uses of panels such as carrying light fixtures to providing special purpose for example acoustic, noise reduction and soundproofing. Ceiling panels come in a variety of materials such as made of cork, wood, metal etc. These panels are also suitable for almost all types of roof shapes such as truss, flat, vaulted. Let’s have a look at the most common functions of these panels used for interior lighting.

1) In the first type the entire ceiling area is covered by using the selected ceiling tiles or plans using a square grid. Metal ropes are used to "hang" the ceiling panels from constructed ceiling at corners of the grid. Then depending upon the panel materialthe panels are screwed to this grid from bottom. The main function of this type of paneling is to carry light fixtures. Thisis used in a very large column less space such as an auditorium or large office space. The grid layout makes it easy to maintain and service in the future. 2) In the second type the panels are used as secondary light source. Instead of carrying the light fixture with them, these panels only receive light from other lighting sources and reflects evenly in the entire space. For this purposed they have a very glossy finish to increase the amount of reflection. The shape and size of the panels or whether to use a single or multiple panels is very carefully worked out depending upon the number and location of direct light sources.

This type of paneling works best for small office spaces such as conference halls, cabins, residential living room etc. Since these panels also becomes a part of the entire design form, a very careful thought must be given about the theme of the design before installing them. 3) In the third type ceiling panels are used very creatively by creating levels. This requires a substantial ceiling height in order to play with levels and allow a good "head room" below the lowest point of the ceiling. In this type the lower level ceiling panels carry the light fixtures and throw direct light on the upper level ceiling panels so that they can distribute it evenly in remote area of the space. Light fixture can also be used to direct on the walls to create a "mood". the biggest advantage of this type of system is that the light source is hidden from direct vision and thus creates a very smooth and uniform lighting in the interior space. ceiling-lights 4) There is one more way these panels can be used in interior spaces for distributing light. Instead of using them on ceiling they can be used on walls to reflect direct sunlight evenly. If used creatively on walls that receives direct sunlight, two functions can be easily achieved. a) Decreasing the intensity of sunlight b) Reflecting it to remote interior spaces using proper angle. But unlike an artificial light source the direction and intensity of sunlight constantly changes in a day. To cater this the panels can be made "adjustable" to serve the changed day conditions.
